What you got there? A brand new iPhone 3GS! Let’s see what third-party apps you have there. You haven’t installed anything yet? But why? With over 75,000 apps in the App Store, there should be a few that you’d like. What do you mean that’s the point? Ah, with so many choices, it kind of gets confusing. I see. How about asking some tech and online luminaries for advice? Ask them which apps do they find really useful, that they got them on their iPhone home screens. Sounds ridiculous? Well, not really. First & 20 will help you do just that.

First & 20 showcases the iPhone home screens of popular developers, designers, and tech writers such as Macworld‘s Editorial Director Jason Snell or gdgt‘s Ryan Block (also co-founder of Engadget), Veronica Belmont (co-host of Revision3‘s Tekzilla and Qore), and Daring Fireball‘s John Gruber.

First & 20 also features the top five apps from all the submitted home screens. As of writing, the top five from 25 home screens are: Tweetie, BirdFeed, Things, Twitterific, and InstaPaper. There’s also a tally for which iPhone color is more preferred. Right now, black iPhones have a slight lead over white iPhones (14 vs 11).

What are you waiting for then? Head on to First & 20 and start filling up that iPhone of yours. While you’re at it, would be nice to start filling up your girlfriend’s iPod touch as well. Your girlfriend doesn’t have an iPod touch? So whose was that you were diddling with last Saturday?

Incidentally, did you notice that three out of the top five apps are Twitter clients? Speaking of which: First & 20 on Twitter.
