
After much rumor and speculation, Apple has confirmed in an email sent to members of the press Monday that there will be a media-related event next week. The invitation features the iconic iPod silhouette with the words “It’s only rock and roll but we like it…” It’s expected that Apple will release new versions of the iPod nano and iPod touch as well as iTunes version 9.
The event will be held on September 9, 2009, 10 AM Pacific Time, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. The Yerba Buena Center for the Arts has been the venue for past Apple media-related events held every month of September starting 2005:
September 7, 2005
- Release of the the 1G iPod nano and iTunes version 5. Oh, the ROKR, too.
- iPod video unveiled and new versions of the iPod nano and iPod shuffle. Also, iTunes 7. Movies on the iTunes Store and one last thing: iTV (renamed into Apple TV).
September 5, 2007
- iPod line revamped with the iPod touch, iPod classic and 3G iPod nano. iPhone ringtones and partnership with Starbucks.

September 9, 2008
- 4G iPod nano, 2G iPod touch. Also new in-ear headphones, iTunes 8, and HD TV shows,
