If Google did not act, we faced a Draconian future where one man, one company, one device, one carrier would be our only choice. That’s a future we don’t want.

…Vic Gundotra, vice president of engineering for Google, then backpedals:

Well, it was my speech, so I have to take responsibility. And it wasn’t necessarily jabs at Apple. We have a deep respect for the innovation they’ve brought… it was done in the spirit of good fun.
