AppleInsider reported that a small number of 27-inch Core-i7 iMacs are showing up dead on arrival. In some of the cases, users would hear the boot up chime after the power button has been pressed but nothing would show up on the screen. Worse, a few of the units arrived with a cracked display. There are speculations that the problem might be due to the packaging of the 27-inch iMac.
The worse case of a cracked 27-inch iMac screen I’ve seen so far is from this Macworld article. The same article mentions that a discussion thread about the issue at the Apple Support discussion boards have grown nine pages long.
Macworld already contacted Apple regarding the issue:
“The new iMac is a big hit with customers,” a spokesman told Macworld. “If any customer has an issue with their Mac, they should contact AppleCare for support.”
