After announcing a better than expected performance during the last quarter of fiscal year 2009, Apple pulled out another surprise from its sleeve. Apple just released an update to the MacBook featuring a newly designed enclosure, LED-backlit display, Multi-Touch trackpad and longer battery life.

The new MacBook is sleeker with rounded contours made out of a unibody, polycarbonate enclosure. The new design makes the new MacBook lighter and more durable. It now weighs 2.13 kgs and is only 2.74 cm thin. It comes with the standard glossy LED-backlit display which has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels.

The bottom of the MacBook is covered with a non-skid surface. When the bottom case is removed, users will see a clean, simple interior layout that will make it easy to upgrade the portable’s memory or hard drive.

The new MacBook inherited the Multi-Touch trackpad and same battery technology from the MacBook Pro line. The glass Multi-touch trackpad is capable of two-, three-, or four-fingered gestures.

The built-in lithium-polymer battery can last up to 7 hours and can be recharged up to 1,000 times. It has a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, a 250GB hard drive, 2GB DDR3 RAM, a double-layer SuperDrive and a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 9400M integrated graphics. The new MacBook has the following ports: MagSafe power, Gigabit ethernet, Mini DisplayPort, two USB ports, audio in/out, and a Kensington lock slot. Conspicuously absent is a FireWire 400 or 800 port.

Every MacBook comes with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and the latest copy of iLife, Apple’s suite of multimedia applications. Wireless technologies include the AirPort Extreme 802.11n wireless networking and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.
The new MacBook is now available at the Apple Online Store Philippines and retails for ₱54,990. Estimated to ship in 2 to 4 weeks. Be sure to check out Apple Education Pricing for a nice deal (hint hint).
