Microsoft’s Zune HD is scheduled to hit store shelves on September 15 and is already available for pre-order. The 16GB Zune HD is selling at $219.99 and the 32GB model at $289.99. The pricing is seen as an attempt by Microsoft to undercut Apple’s iPod touch.

The current pricing for the 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB iPod touch models are at $229, $299, and $399, respectively. Apple, however, is expected to hold a special media event this September which they have done since 2005. According to rumors, the event will happen on September 9 and will feature the next generation iPod touch with built-in camera. It’s also expected that Apple will increase the capacity to 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB at the same price points.

If rumors about the built-in camera are true, customers might choose to ignore the $10 difference and go with the iPod touch instead of the Zune HD.
