… by next week.

Just got back from Globe Business Center at SM Davao. There I asked how will those who made reservations for the iPhone 3GS between July 15 to 30 know when to get their iPhones?
The Globe Business Center personnel said, “We’ll just give you a call, sir.”
Will that be today?
“Uh. Apple informed us there’s a worldwide shortage of iPhone 3GS.”
Oh. Alright. So when will it be expected to be released.
“Middle of the first week of August. Maybe.”
I already was expecting a delay in the iPhone 3GS release here since during the 3Q09 financial call it was mentioned that iPhone 3GS supply is “constrained”.
According to Tim Cook, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer, when asked about how the constrained supply will affect rollout of the iPhone 3GS:
… In terms of affecting the country roll-out, believe the vast majority of countries where selling 3G, be selling the 3GS by end of the fiscal quarter. Might move a date by a few weeks here or there, but vast majority by end of quarter.
No official word yet from Globe on when the iPhone 3GS will be released to subscribers.

Does anyone know if the prepaid version is unlocked?

Thx!

All iPhones sold under Globe Telecom is sim locked to the carrier.
No idea about unlocking softwares. You can try getting one from Hong Kong or Australia since they are selling the iPhone unlocked. You might have issues with warranty though.

Ah ok. I have the 3G, so I was curious about buying the 3GS here since I´m visiting my parents here in the philippines.
The iPhone in Germany netlocked too.
So I hoped the prepaid version is unlocked. It´s a little bit cheaper here in the philippines
The warranty problem would be the same in Germany because no one sells the phone unlocked except some countries in europe. But the iPhone costs above 700€ unlocked in those countries.
Thanks anyway for your answer!

In Hong Kong you can get the 16GB iPhone 3GS for P36,000. Someone’s selling it in Manila. Oh, add shipping fee, by the way.

Ah. You can try getting a prepaid Globe then and use an unlocking software. Globe rep wasn’t sure exactly when next week they’re going to have the 3GS in stock.

Which plan are you going for? My brother and I did separate calculations and we both came to the conclusion that iPhone plan 899 was the best choice. Balance between SMS/call allocation and data allocation.

I was just in the middle of writing a post about how much it will cost to own an iPhone and why I prefer the iPhone plan 899. My draft was longer than expected. I think I’ll publish them in two parts. I’ll have it up by Sunday, if you can wait that long.
