Globe clueless again

I just found out the Globe has once again changed their iPhone 3G pricing. Thanks johnson for the heads-up.

About a month ago I wrote about Globe’s unusual iPhone 3G prices under their iPhone Prepaid kit. Why unusual? It’s because the iPhone 3G came out as being more expensive than the iPhone 3GS. For example, under the old prepaid kit scheme, the 8GB iPhone 3G and 16GB iPhone 3G were at P37,500 and P43,799, respectively. Meanwhile, the 16GB iPhone 3GS was priced at P38,850 and the 32GB 3GS was P45,850. It meant that the 8GB 3G is only cheaper by P1,251 when compared to the 16GB 3GS and the 16GB iPhone 3G was actually P4,950 more expensive than the 16GB iPhone 3GS.

Last week, Globe finally fixed the iPhone Prepaid kit pricing to something more sensible. Under the new scheme, the 8GB iPhone 3G now only requires a cash out of P32,350 and the 16GB is now only P34,000.

New Prepaid iPhone 3G price

Aside from the new iPhone Prepaid kit prices, Globe Telecom also updated their GFlex/GPlan pricing matrix. Customers can now choose between the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS when getting a GPlan or GFlex mobile plan.

And here starts another round of confusion.

For the past several weeks I’ve witnessed Globe flub with the iPhone 3G pricing. First with the iPhone plans then with the iPhone Prepaid kit. I thought I’ve seen the last of this ridiculous charade. Apparently not.

Under GPlan and GFlex, the previous iPhone 3G models will require more cash out than the latest iPhone 3GS units. Case in point, under GMix or GFlex 800, the 16GB iPhone 3G requires a cash out of P32,650 but the 16GB iPhone 3GS only costs P25,350. That makes last year’s iPhone P7,300 more expensive than the latest model.

GPlan nuttiness

You think that’s strange. Check out GMax/GFlex 3500: the 16GB iPhone 3GS only requires a cash out of P3,950. What about the 16GB iPhone 3G?

P17,350!

What the heck?!?

That’s a P13,400 difference right there. Same thing goes when you compare the 16GB 3G with the 32GB iPhone 3GS; you have to pay anywhere between P2,150 to P7,300 more for an iPhone that’s half the capacity, has less megapixels, and can’t do video.

Maybe the P17,350 price is a typographical error. Perhaps it’s supposed to say P7,350. That’s actually possible especially if you compare it to the other iPhone models’ prices. Still, I think it’s absurd that the iPhone 3G is more expensive than the iPhone 3GS.

I’m expecting another round of pricing adjustments just because I think the current GPlan or GFlex iPhone 3G prices are simply ridiculous.
