It’s been more than three months since I last talked about Globe’s ridiculous iPhone plans. My point of contention back then was the absurdity of the pricing for the iPhones 3G units under the GPlan or GFlex subscription plans which, at that time, had the older iPhone model costing more than the newer, bigger capacity iPhone 3GS. I don’t know when the price adjustments took place but Globe’s new pricing scheme for the iPhone under GPlan or GFlex makes more sense now.

GPlan nuttiness

Based on the current pricing matrix, the 8GB and 16GB iPhone 3G units are now cheaper than the 16GB and 32GB iPhone 3GS models, as it should have been in the first place.

Under the new scheme, the price difference between the 16GB iPhone 3G and the 16GB iPhone 3GS ranges from ₱2,200 to ₱3,200. In my opinion, it’s better to pay the extra ₱2,200 to ₱3,200 for the 16GB iPhone 3GS because the 3GS has a better camera, faster processor, voice control, digital compass, and longer battery life under certain use. It is also capable of video recording and editing.

Just an observation
It is interesting to note that Globe still carries the 16GB iPhone 3G considering Apple, during the Worldwide Developers Conference last June, dropped that model from the lineup and only kept the 8GB iPhone 3G alongside the newer 16GB and 32GB iPhone 3GS.

Check out Apple Store U.S. iPhone page; it specifically lists down the 8GB iPhone 3G, 16GB iPhone 3GS, and 32GB iPhone 3GS. However, Apple Store Philippines only has reference to the iPhone 3G without being specific with regard to the capacity. Globe must still have an overstock of 16GB iPhone 3G units and Apple gives its partner carriers free reign as to how the carrier plans to dispose of the 16GB iPhone 3GS overstock.
