Earlier today, I mention in a post that someone from Globe screwed up when they updated their iPhone Prepaid Kit pricing. Well, looks like somebody caught the mistake and they did an edit. They made the necessary correction to the 8GB iPhone 3G-3GS confusion. That’s the good news.
All the while I thought that the P37,599 price was for the 16GB iPhone 3GS not the 8GB iPhone 3G. I was expecting that the 8GB 3G would have a much lower price point (Hah!), if Globe decided to release a Prepaid Kit for it. Well, here’s bad news.
The P37,599 price point isn’t for the 16GB iPhone 3GS but for the 8GB iPhone 3G. To top it off, the 16GB iPhone 3G is more expensive than the 16GB iPhone 3GS.
Yes, I said MORE expensive.
How much more expensive? P4,949 more expensive.
That’s P38,850 for the 16GB iPhone 3GS versus P43,799 for the 16GB iPhone 3G. You’re better off getting the 16GB 3GS on plan 500 either on GPlan or GFlex if you’re willing to pay P43,799.
Actually, for P1,451 more, you can get the 32GB iPhone 3GS! That’s double the memory plus digital compass plus a better camera plus video recording capability!

I know I shouldn’t be surprised since they did the same thing with the iPhone plans, but I still think Globe is screwing both the consumers and Apple.
Apple was supposed to use the 8GB iPhone 3GS 3G with the $99 price tag as a means to draw more people into ditching their dumbphones and start using smartphones.
With this crazy, heaven-only-knows-why pricing scheme, Globe may be preventing Apple from establishing a larger presence in the Philippines. Then again, Globe might already have paid for the previous version iPhones and Apple doesn’t give a rat’s ass what Globe does with them. Still, if Globe wants to get rid of their inventory, they could’ve priced the iPhone 3Gs lower.
I still say something’s rotten in Denmark.
I wonder if Apple Asia has gotten a whiff of this?
Apple? Yoohoo, Apple!

it makes me wonder who’s going to buy those? i would rather buy it in retail outlets because it’s much cheaper, or try considering other affordable options..

Either they’re trying to clear inventory (which seems counter-intuitive) or they want to push the iPhone 3GS. That would wreck their network once people start uploading videos up on YouTube.
There are websites selling factory unlocked iPhones from Hong Kong. I know someone selling the 16GB for P36,500.
I prefer to get the 16GB 3GS from Globe under plan. More reasonable for me.
