The Duke University class of 2008 all received iPods. This is Duke’s initiative in encouraging the creative use of technology in campus life and education.
In iPods Enter Duke Classes, examples are shown on how Duke University are using iPods in their classes. Some of which are:
- Economics lectures are recorded and then reviewed using iPods
- iPods speed up data collection in the engineering classroom
- Spanish accents are assisted by iPods
- iPods help carry on class discussions
On the other side of the coin
From The Register, a school in Sydney, Australia has banned the use iPods . Principal Kerrie Murphy said that the iPod promotes social isolation and selfishness. The register’s Andrew Orlowski offers biting remarks at what he thinks is a draconian policy by the International Grammar School. Another story says the grammar school thinks the iPod distract students from their studies.
