Warning: rumors ahead.

I don’t have the penchant for rumor news but these two appeals to me. First, I’ve been itching for a new portable Mac and second, I’m giving up on the iPhone 3GS from Globe. I’m going to wait for the new iPod touch instead. On to the rumors.

I mentioned in yesterday’s post that Snow Leopard is designated as gold master status and ready for optical media duplication. Well, according to Macworld Snow Leopard could come as early as August 28 based on reports from bloggers. Of course, John Gruber of Daring Fireball had been wrong a number of times already so I’m taking this report with a grain of salt. Still, this puts a big dent on my plans of getting the 13-inch MacBook Pro by next week. I was hoping to get it by this week but I hit a huge snag in my order. I think I have to cancel that order. I’ll just grin and bear it, and wait for September.

The other rumor is about the Apple’s cyclical September music event. AppleInsider reported that some sources in the music industry have leaked information about Apple’s plan to hold an iPod-related event on the week of September 7. Speculations as to what will be unveiled during this year’s September music event ranges from the new “Cocktail” format for music albums to itunes 9 to new iPod touches and iPod nanos with built-in cameras. This will be Apple’s fourth September music event in a row.

One more thing. AppleInsider also reported that the latest Snow Leopard build might do away with the old Mac OS X install icon. The previous design showed an icon with a big X on a purple background. The new install icon is a picture of a snow leopard on a white background.
