iLuv has officially debuted their iEA15 Headphone iPod Remote Adapter and said in a press release Tuesday, the iEA15 “is a perfect solution for iPod music lovers looking for a way to control their iPod music playing functions without having to take it out of their pocket.”
The iEA15′s general features are:
- iPod control via an in-line remote
- Compatibility with any standard headphone/earphone models
- VoiceOver support on the 3rd gen iPod shuffle
- Flexible design for ease of use

The iEA15 uses Apple’s remote control chip so the controls ought to be the same as those on the new Apple earphones with remote: buttons for increasing or decreasing volume; single click on the center button to play/pause a track; double-click to proceed to the next track; triple-click to go back to the previous track; and pressing and holding the center button to use the VoiceOver feature on the 3rd gen iPod shuffle.
iLuv’s website says the iEA15 supports the 3rd gen iPod shuffle, 2nd gen iPod touch, 4th gen iPod nano and 120GB iPod classic.
But does it support the iPhone 3GS? Not sure. iPodNN says that it’s “confirmed” that it does but SlashGear says otherwise calling such reports as “premature”.
I already left a comment on iLuv’s iEA15 blog post asking whether the iPhone is supported or not. I’ll post an update soon.
The iEA15 Headphone iPod Remote Adapter will be available August and is priced at $15.
By the way, Belkin just recently released a similar product for $20 but according to their website, it will only support the 3rd gen iPod shuffle.
Lyle and I talked about what a bummer it was that Belkin’s headphone adapter only works with 3rd gen iPod shuffle and not with the iPhone. I was hoping that the iEA15 would be the solution but doesn’t look like it. I’ll just have to wait for a reply from them.

Unfortunately, I don’t know where to get these headsets here in the Philippines. Try eBay.
