I’m now listening to last week’s Mac Geek Gab podcast and their very first topic touched on the issue of a sluggish Mac. A caller dug around his wife’s Mac and found something interesting. If you think your Mac’s have been slowing down, his discovery might just help you.

Go into System Preferences > Security and find “Use Secure Virtual Memory”. Uncheck the box. That just might speed things up.

Secure Virtual

In my iMac running Mac OS X 10.5.8, the box unchecked. Everyone on this week’s Mac Geek Gab episode except John Braun claimed that they had the secure virtual memory enabled. One possible explanation was that Macs that had Leopard installed via the Upgrade option or used Migration Assistant instead of Erase and Install “inherited” the disabled secure virtual memory option.

That’s about it. I’m going back to listening to Mac Geek Gab 215. You can download it here or subscribe via iTunes.
