Two developers have released a Facebook Desktop Notification application for the Mac. The app notifies users about new activities and updates on Facebook via drop-down notification feeds from the menu bar or via pop-ups. The developers caution would-be users that the application is still in the experimental stage and has only been tested on Mac OS X 10.5. It should be noted that the application was not developed by Facebook. Overall, reviews have been positive.

Facebook has outed a slimmed down version of their site with users of slow Internet connections in mind. Facebook Lite loads faster and has a more simplified look and feel as compared to the regular site. The top portion of the scaled down page shows links to a user’s profile, events, inbox, and settings. There’s also the familiar search box at the top-right corner. Users can switch between viewing all stories or viewing the top stories only and notifications have been moved up to the top of the page instead of being located at the bottom-right. There are also buttons for posting to your wall, photos, or videos. The right-hand side of the screen is the “People You May Know” box with third-party ads directly below it. Notably absent are the third-party applications.
