Bento 3

FileMaker, a subsidiary of Apple, Inc., has released a new version of their personal and small office home office (SOHO) database application, Bento.

Bento 3′s new key feature is integration with iPhoto, allowing users to view their iPhoto images in a library pane to the left of the Bento’s main window. Users will also be able to view iPhoto information in grid, table, form or split views, and link photos to contacts, projects, events or other data stored in Bento.

Another new feature is the grid view which lets users see thumbnails of all records in the database. Moving the mouse pointer over a record with multiple forms will let users ‘skim’ through the forms.

Bento 3 is now available for $49 for a single license or $99 for a family license. Users of Bento 1 or 2 can receive a $20 rebate if they upgrade. Those who purchased Bento 2 after August 30, 2009, they are qualified for a free upgrade.

More information is available at Apple’s Bento page. You can download a free 30-day trial of Bento 3 here.

Bento 3 is not yet available in the Philippine Online Apple Store though it seems it is possible to purchase a single-user license or a Family Pack from the FileMaker Store. When I tried picking “Philippines” from the list of countries to buy Bento 3 from, the FileMaker Store redirected me to the their Australia site. A single-user license cost about AU$72 or when converted to US$, that’s around $63. I tried purchasing Bento 3 from the Hong Kong Apple Store (HK$380) but it didn’t have the option to purchase just the license and not have the item shipped.
