Safari

Almost a month ago I ditched Safari 4 in favor of Firefox 3.5 as Safari was causing my system to stutter whenever I had more than 10 tabs open. I am about to switch to Chrome and try it out for a month to see which browser performs the best under my use. Today, however, Apple released an update to Safari that might have fixed the issue I was having.

Safari 4.0.4 is recommended for all Safari users and includes improvements to performance, stability, and security including:

  • Improved JavaScript performance
  • Improved Full History Search performance for users with a large number of history items
  • Stability improvements for 3rd-party plug-ins, the search field and Yahoo! Mail

The update also includes several security fixes involving ColorSync, libxml, Safari, and Webkit, according to this page.

Download Safari 4.0.4 via Software Update or download manually from Apple’s Support Download page. Download size is between 26MB (Tiger) to 36MB (Leopard).

A restart of your system is required after installing Safari 4.0.4.

I already installed the update and will give this version a spin for 30 days. Let’s see how it goes.
