According to a MacNN report, Google has updated their own free, standalone photo editing app and now features facial recognition and Google Map integration.
In Picasa 3.5, one of the new features is the name tag feature which uses Google’s clustering technology to automatically search and group similar faces in a user’s photo collection. A user can then label all of the grouped photos all at once either by entering a name or by choosing from a list of contacts. The “People” tab allows users to create custom views and slideshows after everyone in a user’s photo collection has been named. Name tags are private by default and a user can decide whether to make them public or not.
Another new feature is support for Google Maps which lets users geotag selected photos. Picasa will write the longitude and latitude to the photo’s EXIF metadata.
Picasa 3.5 is available for both Mac (Intel only) and Windows. You can download Picasa 3.5 for Mac here (18.4MB).
